Venus: The Body of Attraction and the Adorned Self

Attraction and attractiveness are embodied principles yet incredibly elusive in terms of analysis. A very physically good-looking person can lack attractiveness. A person who is not physically blessed can be very attractive and beautiful. Much of the missing element in terms of attractiveness can be seen in bodily style, and style is Venus's domain.

When discussing Venus and the body, the archetype of beauty and love relates to both the body's style and physical appearance. The rhythm, flow, and posture of the body are Venus's dominion and have as much to do with physical attractiveness as other, more apparent variables. Secondly, Venus is very much concerned with the appearance of the body: hairstyle, clothing, grooming, and hygiene. How we look in terms of how we adorn our body is all part of Venus's equation in relationship to the body.

When Venus is activated by astrological transits or progressions, this is when we hear of dramatic transitions in terms of physical appearance or style. The dramatic makeovers or ugly duckling-to-swan case scenarios that we are culturally transfixed by almost invariably happen under major transits or progressions involving Venus.

Saturn: The Structural Body

Saturn, as is the case on so many levels, symbolizes structure. In the case of the body, Saturn represents the skeletal system: bones, teeth, and ligaments. Invariably, Saturn is associated with what is bedrock or foundational in any system, and, in the body, it's the bones. But on a less defined level, Saturn also represents aging and bodily definition. Saturn is the process whereby the body and physical appearance are broken down by wear and tear. Time, the ultimate function of Saturn, invariably runs down the body on all levels, and yet, in response, the body toughens, thickens, and hardens.

Saturn also characterizes the process whereby the body creates personal boundaries and personal space. Through difficult times and times of hardship, the body's definition of personal space often grows, creating a large zone of protection from the outside environment. An overly active Saturn function translates into a body that ages prematurely, that lacks flexibility, and tires quickly. Conversely, an under-functioning Saturn is too pliable, soft, and allows too many harmful influences to penetrate into one's personal space.
