The Evolution of the Body: Transits and Planetary Archetypes
As a collective unit, these planetary archetypes can be considered as the constituents of the body from the perspective of astrology. Although integral to the makeup of the body, we can treat each archetype as an autonomous function; each planet having a life of its own and evolving as an independent entity. Given any point in time, one of these planetary archetypes may take precedence in the evolution of the body as a whole. During any given year, for example, physiological concerns and diet may take precedence in one's field of experience. Thus, functions associated with the astrological Moon are being stressed in importance.
When a particular function associated with the body is being stressed, that emphasis will have an astrological correlation. These correlations are predominantly associated with astrological transits. Transits occur when a planet, at any given time, makes an important angular relationship to the position of a planet or planets in the birth chart. In the example above highlighting the Moon and the physiological functions of the body, we should see an important transit to the Moon. That is, a planet (or planets) should be making an important angular relationship relative to the position of the Moon in the birth chart.
Each planet is associated with a particular type of transiting energy, for lack of a more apt description. That is, when a planet transits a planet in your birth chart, it will form a relationship with the planet in the birth chart in a very specific way, with a specific form of archetypal energy.
In a very rudimentary and reductionistic fashion, the following list demonstrates the basic principles of the energy associated with each transiting planet:
Jupiter: expands, elevates, broadens, celebrates, adds positivity or enthusiasm to any
planetary archetype that it transits.
Saturn: constricts, tests, frustrates, inhibits, limits, depresses, matures, and deflates any planetary archetype that it transits.
Uranus: awakens, liberates, excites, stimulates, quickens, astounds, enlivens, and adds unpredictability to any planetary archetype that it transits.
Neptune: spiritualizes, sublimates, diffuses, enervates, scatters, floods, inspires, and softens any planetary archetype that it transits.
Pluto: empowers, makes all-encompassing, transforms, purifies, smolders, sears, intensifies, burns, and tears down and subsequently rebuilds any planetary archetype that it transits.
This is by no means a complete list. These keywords only touch upon the main transiting influences associated with the above planets. Keyword lists cannot capture the subtlety or scope of influence of transiting energy, but they function through giving an indication of some of the main associations with the archetypes.
When a transiting planet makes an important angular relationship to a planet in the birth chart, it will emphasize the planet with its particular brand or signature archetypal energy. Keeping with the example of the Moon, when Jupiter makes an important aspect to the Moon, it will add its associated transiting influence to the Moon's functions and associations. More specifically, Jupiter will tend to expand or increase associations with Moon. As the Moon is associated with diet and physiological processes, a Jupiter transit can simply expand these associations. When Jupiter transits the Moon, we might expect an increase in our food intake, an expanding waist line, or an elevation in emotional well-being. This is a very simple example, but it demonstrates a particular potential that occurs when a planetary archetype in the birth chart is activated by transit.
