What makes Alive
such a classic is that it is full of magnetism, electricity, and energy–from
both the crowd and Frampton–indicative of Uranus's most positive traits. Deep
within the grooves of vinyl is captured something beyond music itself; an
almost ineffable and indescribable elan vital, a transcendent presence
greater than the performer-crowd gestalt. The attractiveness of Alive
is that the incredible dynamic of unbridled creativity and vibrancy is audibly
present for posterity.
With Uranus opposite
Frampton's natal Sun still in effect, A&M released Alive in January of 1976 (see chart). Within a matter of months, Alive
hit number one, and, during one successful stretch, stayed at the top of the
charts for seventeen weeks. 1976 was Frampton's year. Why? Although astrology
doesn't offer an explanatory principle as to why, it does offer a beautiful
correlation with Frampton's triumph.

| With its allusion to the most Promethean of creatures, "Alive" is Uranus's progeny |

As Alive first
hit number one in March of 1976,
Jupiter-Uranus opposition aligned over Frampton's natal Sun placement
at 1'34" Taurus. (see chart) The Jupiter-Uranus combination is the archetypal combination
of the successful breakthrough, with Jupiter granting success and magnification
to the creative innovation and creativity associated with Uranus. Cosmologically speaking,
Uranus is the universal impetus that gives birth to new |
|
potentials, that ushers
forth radically different possibilities, that pushes through old barriers
to establish new conventions and forms.
Uranus is the universal
genetic anomaly written on the cosmological DNA that can deliver an altogether
new mode of being. Donald Bradley has conceptualized the symbolic glyph of
Uranus to represent this
birthing process, with the circle at the bottom of the glyph depicting the
head of the newborn baby breaking through the mother's cervix to become a
separate and unique individual.
