In the late 1760's
and early 1770's there occured a grand trine between the outer three planets.
More simply, Pluto, Neptune,
and Uranus formed a triangleapproximately
a one thousand year occurance.
This harmonious interchange
of energy between the transpersonal planets ushered in some of the most
dramatic socio-political changes and highest cultural aspirations in world
history. It would be difficult to contest the belief that this period
was responsible for some of the greatest art of humankind, this the time
of the height of Classicism and subsequent transition and transformation
to Romanticism. In philosophy, Kant would single-handedly reorient the
course of the Western mind and renew the spirit of critical examination
for the sake of Truth. Political and socio-economic transformation came
in the form of revolution whose consequences are still reverberating throughout
the world today.
Three figures of
world historical importance were born under this grand trine and perfectly
embody the archetypal significance of this combination: Beethoven, Hegel,
and Napoleon. What is remarkable is that the inner planetary archetype
one would associate with these figuresHegel with Mercury, Beethoven with Venus,
Napoleon with Marsis found to conjunct one of the outer planets and
trine the other two. Thus, the inner planets act as carriers or channels
through which the profundity and archetypal significance of the outer
planets shines through.
Beethoven(birthchart),
as one might suspect, had a Venus-Pluto conjunction. What made his music
distinct from the earlier Classical period, with its tasteful and pleasing
variety, was the rhythmic intensity of his work. One must merely conjure
up the pounding of timpani in the second movement of the Ninth Symphony
or the chords of the Appassionata Sonata to hear Pluto's power
coming through the realm of Venus, ruling art and aesthetics.
However, many a composer
and rock band can thrash as well as Beethoven. Other elements had to be active
in order to elevate Beethoven's music to highest status. Since Beethoven's
Venus aspected the grand trine, the archetypal power of Uranus and Neptune
come through as well.
