Bangla Desh

Harrison's most memorable act of public charity was a notable first in rock history. 1971's Concert for Bangla Desh, Harrison's brainchild for relief for the poverty-stricken nation, was the first event to bridge rock spectacle and public philanthropy. As his solo effort "All Things Must Pass" reached number one internationally, Harrison was more focused upon assisting those less fortune than reaping the rewards from his post-Beatles acclaim. The efforts with the Bangla Desh concert earned Harrison humanitarian awards and recognition beyond purveyors of pop music of the 1960's. At the time of the concert, Harrison's Saturn would conjoin his natal Saturn-Uranus conjunction and square his natal Sun. (see chart) The potential for conscientious reform and pioneering, innovative efforts within structure that are inherent within the Saturn-Uranus conjunction bore fruit for Harrison at this time. (Notice that the inadvertent bridging of world music that Harrison was responsible for seven years earlier occurred when Saturn conjoined Harrison's natal Sun and squared-in 90 degree relationship with-his natal Saturn-Uranus conjunction. It was also at this time that Harrison and Patti Boyd wreck their car on a British highway in an accident similar to the one that happened seven years previously.)

Taxman

By the mid-seventies the afterglow of the Beatles's enormous success and the Harrison's success as a solo artist waned significantly. Moreover, 1975 and 1976 was a time that saw Harrison endure significant career setbacks, legal difficulties, and lawsuits. Not only was Harrison found guilty in the famous "My Sweet Lord" case for "subconscious plagiarism" but A&M Records sued Harrison for $10 million for failing to comply with his recording contract. Equally significant, Harrison's creative output was dwindling; nothing was being produced at the level of his rock classics of the late sixties and early seventies.

At this time transiting Saturn was conjoining Harrison's Midheaven. (see chart) Saturn is the archetype of concretization and materialization, but it is also the archetype of limits, impediments, and frustrations. With Saturn at the Midheaven, Harrison had to deal with a flurry of obstacles and disadvantages to hamper his career as musician-so much so that he would turn his interests to film at the end of the Seventies. Contrast this period of limit and setback to 1959, when transiting Uranus was at Harrison's Midheaven, acting to stimulate and enliven his thrilling sojourn with the Beatles in the years to come.
