Silent Reformer
Once again, the social activist and reformer came out for causes that were worth sacrificing the seclusion that Harrison desired. In the summer of 1986, Harrison participated in an anti-nuclear rally at Trafalgar Square and protested the destruction of a cherished icon from his Beatles days, the Regal Cinema. As with the concert for Bangla Desh, transiting Saturn was making a significant angular relationship to Harrison's natal Saturn-Uranus conjunction. Some fifteen years later, Saturn was opposing Harrison's natal Saturn-Uranus conjunction. (see chart) As the Saturn-Uranus complex can be both the rebellion for progressive causes it can also be activism and protest for the sake of the traditional and the familiar. During this time period, we see both in Harrison. The Saturn archetype activates and forges the tendency affiliated with Uranus toward public and personal awareness, reform, and progress, however, the activation is also reciprocal; Uranus helps to stimulate and enliven the Saturnian tendency toward conservatism, establishment, and structure.
Here Comes the Sun
Harrison's musical career was all but dormant in the eighties and nineties; the musical output after the Beatles's hit a complete skid with the lamentable and wanting album, Gone Troppo, released in 1982. There was one shining musical exception to these two decades-1987's Cloud Nine and his affiliation with The Traveling Wilburys. Cloud Nine's slick production and hooky melodies created the number #1 hit "Got My Mind Set on You" and his collaboration with The Traveling Wilbury's saw him truly return to form with songs like "Handle me with Care."
This brief but important creative burst occurred as transiting Uranus squared (was approximately 90 degrees away from) Harrison's natal Venus. (see chart) Although lacking the degree of productivity and the brilliance of his first songwriting explosion in 1968 and 1969, the same astrological agent could be correlated with the creative breakthroughs and songwriting gifts of that period. During 1968 and 1969, Uranus opposed his natal Venus; Uranus squared his Venus during this creative rebirth, giving him the inspiration and providing rejuvenation for his innate songwriting talents.
