"Everybody does whatever they do to get sex," you'd say,"Career, fame, money--these are all means to an end of more sex." Anyone who disagrees with you is obviously deceiving themselves. Thus, Pluto is the "x" in the phrase "x makes the world go round"— love, sex, money, power, spirit. More often than not, we are going to tell you what "x" stands for by what Pluto does in our birthcharts.

Let us create a round table discussion with the various planetary combinations involving Pluto and hear them debate their various world orientations:

Pluto-Venus: Obviously, it was Freud who discovered that sex permeates everything and that our drives, neuroses, hang-ups are all due to the sexual libido--all other psychologies are mere tangents to Freud. That's that.

Pluto-Moon: The greatest need, the greatest fulfillment comes from a profound emotional response to the world. Our most profound desire—if we search below the superficialities—is to care, to nurture, and heal each other.

Pluto-Mars: You will be destroyed by that attitude! Wake up! Take a look around you. The deepest drive was really articulated by the Darwinists and, more recently, by the sociobiologists. We all act selfishly. It is hard-wired into our brains, for God sake! The most fundamental drive is to compete, is to survive, is to struggle. And if that means destroying weakness, then it is only for the best in evolutionary terms.

Pluto-Saturn: The evolutionary impulse you speak of must be controlled. Without restraint, without suppression, life, as Thomas Hobbes has taught us, life would be solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short. That's why we have social contracts--we need mechanisms of control. Life is much more serious at heart than any of you know. Your attitudes are quite frivolous.

Pluto-Uranus: Oh God, how anal can you be! All of your responses always fail and breakdown. We are dying to be free, to create, to experience life to its fullest capacity. We yearn to participate in the dance of life and create a new humanity based on common values...

Pluto-Mars: You hippies! The sixties failed. It failed principally because you couldn't deal with the realities of life. The engines of progress were completely unaffected by your momentary lapse into delusion.

Pluto-Saturn: The vision of the sixties failed because people didn't come to terms with the fact that effective change only comes through persistant hard work and toil. Free love is not an agent of change.
