Given Jupiter's correlation with voyage and discovery and Uranus's connection with technological breakthroughs and speeding into the unknown, it follows that the Jupiter-Uranus combination is one which not only celebrates pioneering efforts into uncharted territory but actually allows for successful steps forward into the unknown. In the Age of Discovery, Europe's uncharted territory lay beyond the
great oceans. In our current Space Age, the solar system has yet to be fully navigated. Much like Columbus and Magellan in their age, the voyagers of this age will boldly test limits and break barriers to discover new worlds.

Since the dawn of the Space Age in the late 1950s, the Jupiter-Uranus opposition and conjunction alignments have correlated with significant breakthroughs in space exploration. From the Moon Landing to Sally Ride, from Hubble to Mars Pathfinder, the great technological leaps forward in the space program have coincided with major Jupiter-Uranus alignments.

The major opposition between Jupiter and Uranus in 2003 and 2004 continues the pattern. In surprising and unexpected ways, noteworthy advances in space exploration occurred under this alignment. Arguably the greatest overall trend under this opposition was the expansion of the space program beyond the two-country rivalry that has dominated space exploration. Now, at the dawn of the new millennium, the space race is truly a global affair, with many governmental and commercial ventures all making important contributions in space exploration. Notably, the Jupiter-Uranus opposition witnessed major advancements in China's and Brazil's governmentally funded space programs. In October of 2003, China became only the third country to launch a man into space, as China's space program launched 38-year-old Yang Liwei into orbit. As noteworthy, the first privately funded manned mission to space occurred in June of 2004, as SpaceShipOne was launched from the Mojave Desert in California. Once dominated by the governments of the United States and former U.S.S.R., the exploration of the final frontier is now truly a global, collective effort, beyond the borders of nation states.
