Unfortunately, Russell's
films after Tommy never quite captured the level of intensity or
creativity of his films of the early seventies. (The magic of Jupiter-Uranus
fades fast!) There was one exception: Altered States.
This cerebral sci-fi
fantasy awed initial viewers by the quality and intensity of its special

of the sky since Tommy and was now opposing Russell's Jupiter-Uranus

Russell's natal Jupiter-Uranus we again get the quantum breakthrough in special
effects technology that we saw in Tommy when Jupiter was conjuncting
Russell's Jupiter-Uranus conjunction. The special effects in Altered
States incorporated many innovative computer graphics long before
computer generated special effects became popular.
It was truly ahead of
its time. As was Russell who certainly deserves another look.
