5. "Johnny Get your Gun"/Metallica: "One"

This particular correlation involves not one cultural expression, but two, spanning across the twentieth century. Released under the last Saturn-Neptune conjunction in 1988 and 1989, Metallica's "One" became an instant popular hit, reaching number one on the video charts. Concerning the subjective experience of a World War One veteran, "One" may be one of the greatest popular songs written examining the sense of psychospiritual imprisonment. Accompanying the spiritual torment conveyed by the lyrics are guitar lines which express bittersweet poignancy. The overall effect of "One" is a sense of longing for spiritual succor amidst worldly pain. The video and song reflected the expression of the Saturn-Neptune conjunction at the time; however, the video makes reference to several related Saturn-Neptune phenomena. The video is liberally edited with footage from the movie, "Johnny Get Your Gun," a movie released under the Saturn-Neptune opposition of 1971. The movie, in turn, was based on Dalton Trumbo's novel which concerned World War One, occurring under the Saturn-Neptune conjunction of 1916-1918. Listen to a sample of "One."

6. Jean Paul Sartre's "No Exit"

Similar to Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" in content and style, Sartre's "No Exit" is a play within the existentialist, absurdist tradition. Set in a claustrophobic hotel room, the play involves three individuals who quickly learn that "hell is other people." Beyond implying that hell is a place of eternal frustration and boredom, Sartre suggests that the human condition stripped of pretense and deception is hell, and this is what the characters in the play must encounter. From an archetypal perspective, Sartre's "No Exit" concerns Saturn stripping away the illusions, fantasies, and deceptions often affiliated with Neptune. (Sartre even makes it impossible for the characters to fall asleep, thus heightening the sense of lacking the dream or fantasy function associated with Neptune.) The play premiered in wartime France in 1944 as the Saturn square Neptune alignment configured tightly with Sartre's natal Sun (see chart).

7. Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" 1st Movement.

The opening bars of Beethoven's most famous sonata stand apart from his other works. Solemn, grave, and heartbreaking, the Moonlight Sonata lacks the pulsating, rhythmic intensity and epic heroism that characterized the majority of Beethoven's other works. Instead, the Moonlight Sonata connotes the loss from unrequited love and the grief from Beethoven's growing deafness. 8. John Lennon's "Imagine"

Although written nearly two centuries after Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata," John Lennon's "Imagine," with its haunting, stern and methodical chords, harkens back to the German composer's masterpiece. Although some critics have questioned the sincerity of Lennon's "Imagine," its sparse but lyrical use of piano and strings, its somber yet beautiful melody, and its call for world peace combine to make for Lennon's most memorable solo recording. "Imagine's" beauty is only matched by its popularity; it received the recognition as Rolling Stone's third greatest song of the Rock era. While recording the track with engineer and innovator Phil Spector, the Saturn-Neptune opposition in the sky formed a t-square with Lennon's natal Venus. (see chart) Listen to a sample of Imagine."
