•7. The need to project the grosser elements of one's own culture, race, and nation onto another, often by use of scapegoating or propadanda, so as to intensify the solidarity and superiority of one group over another.
• 8. More than mere psychological projection, the physical threat, mistreatment, or violence perpetrated by one group-assembled around race, religion, or socio-political affiliation-against another for the sake of strengthening power and cohesion of the abusing faction. The need to "cleanse, purify, and eradicate" what is deemed base, despicable, or unwanted in another race or group through mass annihilation and extinction. Genocide.
• 9. Unspeakable atrocities are perpetrated. The worst violation of human rights. The abdication of any and all rational, reasonable ends and means.
• 10. A consolidation or inhibition of economic forces. Economic decline, recession, or depression.
• 11. Contraction and strengthening of national boundaries or affiliations. Intense national pride, jingoism, and fanaticism.
• 12. The general tenor of conservatism, fear, mistrust, collective paranoia. The fear of loss of control. The fear of powerlessness.
• 13. A society's or powerful individual's need to enact rigid standards of conformity and control. Little or no tolerance for variation, difference, dissent. "Group cohesion" or "Group mind." Punitive repurcussions for those who deviate from standards of control. Totalitarianism.

1914-1915 saw the beginning of multiple declarations of war through Europe which would ultimately be known as World War I. Quite suddenly, hidden agendas rose |

| violently to the surface. A precarious peace which had been held throughout Europe for many years had rapidly been broken as tensions, dissent, animosity, and quest for power had been unleashed all over the continent. Great Britain's recent bravura display of its naval power, unresolved vestiges of the Second Balkan War, animosity and fear surrounding Germany's unchecked military growth, unimpeded nationalism, and uncertainty revolving around rampant imperialism were all channelled into the Great War.
