Jurassic Park's computer animated dinosaurs symbolize yet another aspect of the Saturn-Pluto grouping, the fear and problematic side of the primal, instinctual, and biological. Like the great white shark of Jaws, the T.Rex's brought to life in Jurassic Park represents nature at it's most creative and destructive. Saturn can render problematic and impose fear on whatever it contacts. In this case, Saturn makes the transforming, primal side of nature-Pluto- something which evokes terror and fright in others. All transformative process have a degree of threat involved as that which is transformed necessarily surrenders it's previous state, however, some of these processes are incredibly alluring, seductive, and appealing. Saturn, by contrast, makes these transformative processes dark and terrifying.

And, of course, what of the critical and commercial success of these films? Jurassic Park earned Spielberg more money of off one film than any other director in history. Schindler's List garnered critical accolades and gave Spielberg the much-deserved first time Oscar for Best Director. It was, as they say, a vintage year. When one observes success at this level and magnitude, one must hunt for Jupiter's position in the sky relative to the birthchart.

Not only was Jupiter in the aforementioned Fifth House, but Spielberg was experiencing the coveted Jupiter Return at the time of his Oscar win.(see chart) The Jupiter Return occurs approximately every twelve to fourteen years (his previous Jupiter Return coincided with the release of E.T. and Poltergeist in 1982, which he produced). It's correlation with success and positive receptiveness to life is without disbelief, however, the amount of hard work, dedication, perseverance, and determination one is willing to put forth is often correlated with the size of the Jupiterian bounty.

Saving Private Ryan (Released 1998)

Unrelenting, uncompromising, heroic, and deeply moving, Saving Private Ryan is, by many accounts, one of the handful of truly great war films. Revisiting the material of World War II for a third time behind the camera, Saving Private Ryan is Spielberg's most unobtrusive look into the horror of war, relying upon ensemble acting and film technique to tell the story without any preconceived
notion of right answers and justifications for war. The result is a visceral tour de force that is overpowering and yet lacking contrived answers and without manipulating audience expectations.

As Spielberg's progressed Sun opposed his natal Saturn-Pluto conjunction for Schindler's List, For Saving Private Ryan, Spielberg's progressed Mars opposed the Saturn-Pluto conjunction. (see chart) Mars in its most crude form usually conjures up images of a naïve, aggressive, quick-tempered and untested warrior looking for action. In Saving Private Ryan, little does Mars know the energizing skirmish he is looking for to prove his courage and inflate his ego is nothing but the epic struggle between light and dark for which individual action proves inconsequential-the archetype of Saturn-Pluto.

Spielberg's genius-and what separates Saving Private Ryan from other war movies-is the realism that numbs and yet engrosses. In order to capture the level of authenticity needed to evoke such a powerful reaction, Spielberg and cinematographer Janusz Kaminski completely abandoned their usual plan of attack by abandoning storyboards, cranes, and dollys and chose to have hand-held cameras capture action without much directorial interference.
