This unexpected revision of technique gave brilliant, shocking, and original results. Paralleling this tactic, Uranus by transit was opposing Spielberg's natal Saturn-Pluto conjunction. Being the archetype which is related to technology and original, creative thinking, Uranus awoke the "thinking outside the box" which was necessary to recreate the now legendary sequence of the allies landing on Omaha Beach that opens the film.

A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (Released 2001)

When Neptune conjoined Spielberg's Mercury in the mid-seventies, the script for Jaws was the result. As Pluto is currently conjoining Spielberg's natal Mercury, (see chart) Spielberg was attracted to the ideas of A.I. and wrote the screenplay. Pluto and Mercury is the aspect for penetrating ideas and thoughts which probe to the heart and depths of any matter. (Spielberg's collaborator
on the project, Stanley Kubrick, possessed a Mercury-Pluto conjunction by birth.) A.I. addresses the fundamental questions of any age which are sure to have concrete implications for the 21st Century: What is the true definition of life? Is the animating principle, the élan vital of biological life, something which can be reproduced by human creation? If so, what are the positive and negative potentials of tampering with the fundamental building blocks of creation? The questions run deep in A.I. and Spielberg doesn't run away from them but interweaves them in an engrossing, perplexing, and complex narrative.

For nearly three years, Neptune, the planet of imagination, idealism and illusion will be opposite the dark magus in Spielberg's natal chart, Saturn. (See chart) If Saturn manifests in our life as strict definitions of form, boundary and structure, Neptune, by contrast, represents the amorphous, the oceanic and the ever-changing fantasy life of the unconscious emerging subtly into our day-to-day awareness. When Saturn and Neptune meet, our visions, hopes and dreams tend to take a turn toward the grim.

In movies, Saturn and Neptune are often evidenced in starkly beautiful sets. Grays and blacks are the color pallette of choice, and only the essentials are needed in terms of props, backdrops and acting. In terms of direction, Saturn and Neptune films tend to be hauntingly quiet, allowing the power of nuance and suggestibility to be as present as anything explicitly stated. Thematically, Saturn and Neptune beg the question, "What is real and what is not?" A.I. is Spielberg's darkest fantasy to date. Scenes of Rogue City and the Flesh Faire recall the dark sets and dystopic settings of movies like Dark City and the Matrix, produced under a recent Saturn square to Neptune in 1999.

For A.I.'s release, Jupiter makes a conjunction to Spielberg's natal Uranus in the Twelfth House.(see chart) If there is any planetary combination that is associated with all-time classic films and movie breakthroughs, it's Jupiter-Uranus. Often when Jupiter travels past Uranus' placement in a director's natal chart, a signature film, or even masterpiece, is released. Examples include George Lucas, Star Wars; Milos Foreman, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest; John Schlesinger, Midnight Cowboy; Stanley Kubrick, Dr. Strangelove; Cecil B. DeMille, The Ten Commandments and Elia Kazan, On the Waterfront. The common denominator with all of these films is that they are classics which improve with each passing year. Often the Jupiter-Uranus movie is too ahead of the time its of release to be fully appreciated by the movie-going public, and so is the case with A.I.. Some critics have appreciated the brilliance of this film upon first-viewing. Others expecting not to be challenged have come away perplexed assuming not to be so stirred emotionally and intellectually.

Jupiter and Uranus are also associated with technological innovations that irrevocably alter the course of film history.
