Stanley Kubrick waited so long to initiate A.I. because he believed that the state-of-the-art in special effects couldn't do justice to the futuristic world he envisioned. The CGI effects in the film, without being overproduced, are stunning. Realizations of an underwater New York and a decadent future city are beautifully crafted and one has the sense that the creators really have their pulse on plausible appearance of the future.
