was deeply touching and satisfying for Spielberg and audiences alike.

At the time of E.T.'s creation and release, Spielberg was experiencing a Neptune conjunction of his natal Sun placement. The inspiration, longings of authentic connection, and yearnings for deliverance that Spielberg was sure to be feeling shone through in E.T. Spielberg turned down the technical aspects and special effects magic-correlations of his Sun-Uranus conjunction-so that the heartfelt centerpiece of the story, the friendship between E.T. and Elliot, could carry the movie.

The central image and the most memorable line of the movie epitomize the archetypal themes associated with Neptune. The movie poster featuring the outstretched fingers of E.T. and Eliot evokes the similar image of the extended digits of God and Adam on Michelangelo's mural on the Sistine Chapel. The core motifs remain the same: the yearning to touch the infinite, to be healed, to dissolve seemingly finite boundaries-all central Neptunian issues. Similarly, E.T.'s pitiable repeated groveling to "phone home" captures the longing in all of us to return to an undifferentiated state of union with the divine, the oceanic womb, the condition of unbroken wholeness.
