"Uranian times" can be as unnerving and jarring as they are creative and rejuvenating. The shocks or disturbances of Uranus often wake us up to a new perspective or level of insight that was unconscious beforehand. In personal life, Uranus's archetypal presence is often felt as a shattering of beliefs or life structures that, in retrospect, make sense. The inner dialogue in the wake of a peak Uranus time in one's life might be: "If I were truly honest with myself, I could see the job loss, the divorce, or other tragedy coming because I felt a growing discomfort and unease—an 'inner itch'—with the status quo and how things were." Like an innate intelligent design that exists on a universal scale, we see a queer logic to the journey and story of our life in the aftermath of a Uranus detonation.

However, there are problems and difficulties in the personality that is overly-identified with the archetype of Uranus. Often people with too much Uranus suffer from what might be called "transcend-itis"-an inflammation of the need to transcend structure, security, rootedness, and instinct. People with this particular affliction have existential, philosophical problems but not legitimate difficulties. Rather, their concerns are too macroscopic and visionary to be rooted in "right here, right now" terms, and their need for mental conceptualizing without concrete action can be truly crippling. Secondly, there is often too much emphasis upon needing new, unconventional, or cutting edge experience; the immature side of Uranus is the drive for new opportunity without pain, conflict, follow through, or challenge. The exhilaration and excitement of making personal breakthroughs and making new discoveries can be something like an addiction, and the freedom that one searches for becomes a trap and jail rather than enduring liberation. Finally, there can be a "truth at all costs" fanaticism and obstinacy in the individual merged with the Uranus archetype. Often the individual will detach from situations that wreak of superficialities, conventions, and shallowness in the desperate search for something higher and nobler. What results is a wandering with the end result being an aloofness, irritability and loneliness.

Rarely does a Uranus film come to you without effort. These are not Hollywood studio system films but rather films shown in art houses or likely to be found in the cult or independent section of a video store. These are films that break new ground, that experiment, challenge, and grope. The Uranus film is made for the seeker, the curious, the detached social critic, the inventive mind, and those bored with the formulaic.
