| The Industrial Revolution
began to show its weaknesses by mid-19th century. The
exploitation by the industrialists of the working classes in Europe rivaled
the lack of freedom experienced under monarchical rule. Revolutions swiftly
overtook Europe in 1848. Unlike the French Revolution with its emphasis
on individual freedoms, the revolutions of 1848 had a highly socialist
flavor, with its emphasis on cooperation over and above competition.

| Emerging during Neptune's
discovery, Spiritualism take's hold of America. |

The emphasis on community
and the collective over the individual is indicative of the Neptunian
archetypal qualities of compassion and the interconnectivity of all beings. Also of note are the
experiments in religion at the time. In 1846, Brigham Young led the Mormons
from Illinois to Utah and the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints
was established. The Bahá'í Faith started in Iran. Eastern religions were
beginning to be explored by artists, writers, and scholars for the first
time in Europe and America. |
|
Most interestingly was
the sudden, unanticipated rise of Spiritualism as a mass metaphysical/religious
movement in America in the late 1840's. Starting in the small town of Hydesville,
New York, Spiritualism–with its emphasis on paranormal phenomena, mediumship,
and the “beyond”–rapidly captivated Americans from all over and became one
of the largest religious movements in the history of the United States. The emphasis in Spiritualism
on dreams, ghosts, and the spirit realm are certainly indicative of Neptunian
qualities.
We must
look at the astrological context to ascertain a greater meaning from Neptune’s
return to its discovery position of 25'54" Aquarius in 2009-2010 . Neptune’s discovery in 1846 took place within
the backdrop of a Uranus-Pluto opposition, an alignment known for its revolutionary
quality. The Neptunian energy added a cooperative, socialist element to the
rebellions of this era.
The 2009-2010 Neptunian
return will occur within a matrix of a Saturn/Uranus/Pluto t-square. The implications
of this alignment are too much to go into within this essay, however, suffice it to say that this
is an alignment of crisis, death, and rebirth packaged in one powerful alignment of concentrated archetypal energy—the last Saturn/Uranus/Pluto t-square occurred in
the heart of the Great Depression.
